My New Year's Resolution is This Email.
With 2023 finally in the rearview, let's kick @$$ together in 2024.
Greetings Friends!
I hope you all had a wonderful and joyous holiday season. As we kick 2023 to the curb, it’s time for me to get down to business and work on one of my most ambitious New Year’s resolutions: sharing more of my work. I have over two million photo and video files (yes, I counted…) in my archives and it pains me to realize that most of this work will remain there for eternity unless I do something with it. Hopefully this platform will serve as a way to deliver some of my unseen imagery to the world!
As much as it pains me to say this, I’ve really come to love email newsletters. They are a great place to share stories, content, and updates with others. There is space for these things to breathe and unfold in an email, unlike social media with awful layouts, advertisements, caption restrictions, your weird uncle’s toxic comments… you get the point. I’ve quite enjoyed what some of my friends have been doing with their own and find myself inspired to join the trend.
So what can you expect from my newsletter, you ask? Well, to be honest, I’m not sure - but I’ve got a notebook full of ideas & stories to share and I’m excited to see how everything comes together on this platform. I can promise lots of photos and videos, periodic updates on what I’ve been up to, tips & tricks from the field, and perhaps a few good laughs.
Anyways, enough blabbing from me. Thanks for checking this out - I’m looking forward to the rest of 2024 and what the future has in store for us all.
Cheers!
Jamie
Allow me to reintroduce myself…
My name is Jamie Walter, I’m an outdoor photographer & filmmaker based in Maine. I have a passion for capturing skiing on the east coast, landscapes (especially the night sky!), and all the reasons why I love my backyard. Some of my recent projects have included work for Maine Tourism, Visit NH, Stio, Sugarloaf Mountain, and L.L. Bean. When I don’t have a camera in my hand, you can find me hanging with my dogs, skiing at #theLoaf, or tinkering with my 3D printer.

Some Personal 2023 Highlights
I spent a considerable amount of time last year working on specialty camera rigging projects, which has quickly become a favorite niche of mine in the video world. Specialty camera work involves creatively attaching cameras to vehicles or in other awkward places to capture unique perspectives. I look forward to many more of these opportunities in 2024.
I took a much needed vacation to visit Newfoundland in May to see puffins, icebergs, and some very dramatic coastline. You can view an album from the trip here.
I was commissioned to shoot a panorama of Portland’s skyline from Back Cove for a 96-inch-wide print install in an engineering firm’s conference room. This last week I finally got a chance to see the print hanging on their walls, and boy did it turn out good; the detail and clarity of the colors is something you can really only appreciate in person. If you’d like to discuss fine art or large format artwork for your home or business, feel free to reach out. I’ve got some wild ideas I’d love to try…
Things I’m Looking Forward to in 2024…
The Ski Journal’s latest issue (17.4 - dropping late January) features a story on The Angry Beavers / Black Mountain of Maine that I had the pleasure of photographing. I can’t spill the beans or share any images quite yet, but I highly suggest grabbing a copy to read about what great things are going on at the small independent ski area in Rumford, Maine.
On April 8th, 2024 a total solar eclipse will cross a swath of the United States - including Maine, where totality will begin around 3:29pm EST. I am crossing my fingers for good weather here that day (though the odds are not favorable) so we may all experience a truly incredible sight together. I caught the last total eclipse that crossed the USA back in August 2017 from a cornfield in Illinois.
Writing and sharing more stories here via email - duh!

That’s all… for now.
If you made it this far, well, I appreciate you more than you know. Thanks a ton for reading. I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite images from 2023. If you’d like to keep up with my work on a more frequent basis you can 1) consider following me on Instagram and 2) make sure this email didn’t land in your spam folder.
